Program Introduction

The Lewis M. Fraad Department of Pediatrics, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Jacobi Medical Center is committed to training exceptional pediatricians. The entire program has been designed to provide residents with a comprehensive educational experience and to prepare them for careers in pediatrics. The residency also provides an excellent foundation for future training in pediatric subspecialties, public health, and child advocacy.

The residency strives to develop the full potential of each resident. To this end, each house officer is assigned a faculty advisor who provides support and counsel during the three years of training. The program also provides regular retreats for house staff in order to allow group time for reflecting, socializing, and relaxing away from the hospital environment.

The primary learning experience for all house staff is patient-based, whether in the clinic, the emergency department, or on an inpatient service. An extensive didactic program complements the clinical experience, and includes problem-based conferences, lectures, specialty rounds, hands-on teaching exercises, and journal clubs. All residents have 24-hour access to the pediatric library at JMC in addition to access to the medical school library at AECOM. Computer-based learning programs are available on a variety of subjects; internet access is available at all times in all teaching and patient-care sites.
