Bio
Dr. Rachel J. Katz is responsible for Undergraduate Medical Education in the Lewis M. Fraad Department of Pediatrics, and is the site leader for Einstein’s Pediatrics Clerkship. Dr. Katz also serves as Assistant Dean of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Jacobi Medical Center, and in this capacity functions as the primary academic liaison between the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Jacobi Medical Center for undergraduate medical education.
Dr. Katz serves on various Einstein committees and initiatives focused on medical education. As a member of the Educational Competency Task Force, she was closely involved in the development of Einstein’s Educational Competencies, and produced and directed the “Einstein Educational Competencies” Video, which is used to educate students and faculty. In addition, Dr. Katz has served as a member of Einstein’s Curricular Design Executive Committee and as Co-Chair of Einstein’s Instructional Strategies and Professional Development Design Team. She is also Chair of the Undergraduate Medical Education Committee at Jacobi Medical Center.
Concurrent with her focus on medical student education, Dr. Katz is dedicated to helping residents at all levels of training--from beginning interns to senior residents--learn how to become effective teachers. To this end she developed and serves as the director of the department’s Resident as Teacher Program, and has led faculty and resident development in this area both at Einstein and at outside institutions. In addition, she led the development of Jacobi Kids and serves as faculty advisor to the program.
Dr. Katz is a Professor of Pediatrics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
