About the Bronx
Chairman's Welcome
Welcome! Named for Dr. Abraham Jacobi, the “Father of American Pediatrics,” Jacobi Medical Center (JMC) has served the health care needs of the children of the Bronx and lower Westchester County for 50 years. The Department of Pediatrics at JMC cares for an economically diverse patient population; in the past year children from more than fifty countries were seen in our ambulatory clinics and inpatient services.
The Pediatric Emergency Department, the busiest Pediatric trauma center in New York City, recorded nearly 40,000 visits last year. In addition, we have an active inpatient service, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and state-of-the-art level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The pediatric residency at JMC is a designated Primary Care Residency Training Program committed to providing an outstanding education in general pediatrics. Residents have extensive Pediatric inpatient and outpatient experiences, including community health and advocacy, as well as comprehensive exposure to all the Pediatric subspecialties. The ultimate goal of the JMC Pediatric Residency Program is to graduate caring and competent Pediatricians, whether primary care specialists or tertiary care subspecialists, who will have gained a solid foundation in all aspects of Pediatric care.
